STUDIO 770 FEATURED ARTIST: RON KOBAYASHI

Studio 770 is proud to feature Ron Kobayashi. He is the driving force of our Open Mic House Band performing monthly at Studio 770, which is an event open to the general public. As a session musician, Ron is Studio 770's first call for any productions requiring piano. Needless to say, he has done hundreds of recordings here.

Los Angeles Times acclaimed: “Superb Jazz Stylist,” Ron Kobayashi has performed with the likes of Mel Tormé, Margaret Whiting, Tom Scott, Peter Frampton, Herb Jeffries, Tim Weisberg, Eric Marienthal, Jules Day, Peter White, Kenny Burrell, Bill Watrous, Teddy Edwards, Pete Christlieb, Paula Kelly Jr., and the Modernaires.

Kobayashi is a jazz pianist and composer based in Southern California. In 1992, Ron performed for president Bill Clinton. The Ron Kobayashi Trio was formed in 1994. In 1996, the trio was voted “Best Jazz Group in Orange County” by readers of the Orange County Weekly.

The Trio has recorded seven CDs and one DVD to date, receiving airplay across the U.S. and Canada. Their CD, “No Preservatives” (Carpet Cat Records) was described as a “5 star session from three of the Southland’s finest” by the LA Jazz Scene. The Orange County Register wrote: “If you define jazz as spontaneity, emotional expression and communication among musicians, you won’t find anything better than “No Preservatives.” In 2012, the Ron Kobayashi Trio was nominated for “Best Jazz” at the Orange County Music Awards.

Ron served as musical director of the annual Hollywood Diversity Awards from 2001 to 2006. He has taught music for over 30 years and currently teaches at the Orange County High School of the Arts, Vanguard University, and Biola University.

The Ron Kobayashi Trio currently performs every Thursday and Friday at the Bayside Restaurant in Newport, as well as every first and third Saturday of the month at Les Amis Restaurant in Fullerton.

Come see Ron play at our next Open Mic event (see studio event page for date).
